Eupmyeon Village Story Contest and 100-Person Saseolga Chorus 'Eolssigu ~ Good~'
[Boseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Cheon-seok] Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that the 2nd Boseong Comprehensive Arts Festival held at the Cultural Arts Center on the 26th was successfully concluded with a rich program and active participation from residents.
Hosted by the Boseong branch of the Korea Federation of Artistic & Cultural Organizations (Chairperson Seo Jeong-mi), the 2nd Boseong Comprehensive Arts Festival showcased various cultural events including a 100-person Pansori chorus performance, a town storytelling contest by eup and myeon villages, and performances by local singers, attended by about 300 residents.
Various artistic groups such as the Boseong Writers' Association, Boseong Art Association, and the Boseong branch of the Federation of Entertainers and Artists participated, elevating the prestige of the comprehensive arts festival.
In particular, the ‘100-person Pansori Chorus Performance of Sacheolga,’ sung together by 100 Boseong residents who received special training from local master singers, was highly praised as a distinctive stage showcasing Boseong’s identity as the birthplace of Seopyeonje and the home of traditional Korean vocal music.
The ‘Town Storytelling Contest’ participated in by 12 eup and myeon villages introduced local neighborhoods and was attended by about 300 residents. Residents presented village videos created together on site, and external judges conducted the evaluation. The grand prize was awarded to Taepyeonggol Village in Boseong-eup, with the Excellence Awards going to Yeondong Village in Hoecheon-myeon and Geoseok Village in Nodong-myeon.
The ‘100-person Pansori Chorus Performance of Sacheolga’ began rehearsals in April this year, and the town storytelling contest started filming in the summer, with residents collaborating over a long period to produce the content.
Seo Jeong-mi, Chairperson of the Korea Federation of Artistic & Cultural Organizations Boseong branch, said, “Last year, due to COVID-19, the arts festival was held non-face-to-face, but this year it was held in person for the first time, and it is truly rewarding to be able to share it with many people. We ask for continuous interest and love for the development of local culture and arts and for our local artists, and we will strive to become a federation that can satisfy diverse cultural needs.”
Kim Cheol-woo, Mayor of Boseong-gun, stated, “We will continue to hold cultural and artistic events where local artists and residents participate together, and gradually expand the town storytelling contest, part of the Boseong600 project, to create a cultural festival that shares the origins and history of villages with all residents.”
