[Asia Economy Reporters Bomryeong Kim, Hyunji Kwon] Jeong Jin-seok, Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, has emphasized the 'processing of the budget bill within the legal deadline.'

Chairman Jeong stated at the Emergency Response Committee meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 28th, "Swiftly processing the New Year's budget bill within the legal deadline is politics for the people's livelihood."

He continued, "During the review process of the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, we must strengthen the welfare net meticulously and eliminate welfare blind spots as much as possible. We must stop the tragic march of deaths," adding, "This is the top priority task that the political circles must tackle together." During the meeting, Chairman Jeong mentioned a mother and daughter who died from hardship in Sinchon and teenage siblings who died in Incheon.

Chairman Jeong said, "The New Year's government budget includes many allocations for expanding the welfare net," and added, "The ruling and opposition parties must stay up all night debating whether this budget is insufficient or if there is anything more to add."

He also said, "Experts continue to predict that the upcoming economic crisis will be comparable to the IMF foreign exchange crisis. The older generation remembers the deep scars left by the IMF," and emphasized, "South Korea, having joined the ranks of advanced countries, must not repeat the tragedy of the IMF."

He further explained, "Next year's budget must serve as a 'high-performance radar' to detect socially vulnerable people sending distress signals from welfare blind spots," and added, "A harsh winter is approaching the ordinary people's economy. Accordingly, the number of vulnerable groups is expected to increase sharply next year."

Chairman Jeong stressed, "The New Year's budget, which soothes the ordinary people's economy and protects vulnerable groups, must swiftly pass the plenary session and be promptly executed on the ground," and "I repeatedly request the Democratic Party to focus on the National Assembly's fundamental mission of protecting the ordinary people and vulnerable groups."
