Yangcheon-gu, Surrounding Area Renovation through Installation of Night Study Mats and Planting of Over 20,000 Shrubs and Herbaceous Plants
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kigye Lee) announced that it has refurbished the aging green facilities around Mokdong Apartments, which are loved by residents as walking paths, transforming them into safe and pleasant walking trails.
The green spaces around Mokdong Apartments complexes 8, 9, 13, and 14, recently renovated, are easily mistaken as apartment-owned but are actually buffer green spaces managed by Yangcheon-gu as urban planning facilities. The walking paths leading up the hill via stairs are surrounded by forest, making the area frequently used not only by residents but also by nearby locals.
However, due to their age, the green environment had become worn and dark, and slippery stone slabs on the upper walking paths, along with uneven natural stone staircases leading to the trails, posed fall risks during walks, necessitating environmental maintenance.
Accordingly, the district refurbished 13 stone staircases around complexes 8, 13, and 14 into comfortable and cozy wooden stairs. To prevent soil erosion and provide a pleasant landscape, 1,768 shrubs of eight species including wooden hydrangeas and 4,200 flowering plants were planted around the wooden stairs.
The green area around complex 9, which had complaints due to old and damaged iron fences, also saw the removal of old green boundary stones and fences at the lower slope, replaced with a newly installed scenic retaining wall that gives a neat impression.
In particular, all slippery iron flat stones along the 377-meter upper walking path were removed and replaced with soil paths and palm mats to create a safe walking environment.
Additionally, wooden deck stairs with handrails were installed to allow comfortable access to the walking path, and seven benches were added to provide resting spaces. To improve the green environment, 2,590 shrubs of four species including azaleas and mountain hydrangeas, along with 14,660 flowering plants, were supplemented and planted along the walking paths and green slopes.
Yangcheon-gu Mayor Kigye Lee stated, “We will continue to refurbish aging and damaged green facilities to restore their original functions and provide a safe and pleasant environment for local residents.”
