[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Kyung-jun] North Korean State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong-un took a commemorative photo with the contributors involved in the launch of the intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) ‘Hwasong-17’ on the 18th and praised their efforts.


The Korean Central News Agency reported on the 27th, "Respected Comrade Kim Jong-un took a commemorative photo with the members who contributed to the successful test launch of the new intercontinental ballistic missile Hwasong-17."


The agency stated that "the respected General Secretary appeared at the photo shoot venue together with his honorable child."


Chairman Kim appeared holding hands again with his second daughter, who was first revealed at the ICBM launch site on the 18th.


He told the attendees, "Our Hwasong-17, born and upheld amid the unconditional support of the people, is undoubtedly a great creation achieved by our people through their own strength, a great embodiment of strategic power, and truly the Hwasong of the Korean people," adding, "We must never be complacent about the achievements we have made, but rather firmly grasp our super-strong power with both hands and further solidify it into an absolute and irreversible force, continuously accelerating toward the infinite strengthening of our defense capabilities without limits."


The agency evaluated the ICBM launched this time as "a great crystallization achieved through pure loyalty, extraordinary spirit, and outstanding scientific and technological prowess," praising the contributors as "trustworthy defense warriors who confidently launched it before the world, assuring our ever-growing military strength and powerfully demonstrating the formidable might of our accumulated nuclear war deterrence to all nations."


Scientists, technicians, workers, and officials (cadres) from the missile division of the National Defense Science Institute pledged in a resolution letter to Chairman Kim, "Even if our bones are broken and crushed to powder, we will bravely fight forever for the respected General Secretary," and vowed, "We will vigorously push forward the operational deployment of strategic and tactical missiles and further solidify the arms factory of the Paektusan Revolutionary Industry in terms of quality and quantity."


Additionally, North Korea promoted the ranks of military personnel who contributed to the development and launch of the Hwasong-17. A large-scale promotion was carried out including 2 generals, 1 sangjang (three-star general), 2 jungjang (two-star generals), 9 sojang (one-star generals), 19 daejwa, 44 sangjwa, 18 jungjwa, 3 sojwa, 6 daewi, 1 sangwi, and 1 jungwi. Jang Chang-ha, director of the National Defense Science Institute, and Kim Jeong-sik, deputy director of the Workers' Party Military Industry Department, who were previously sangjang, were promoted to generals.


The agency reported the order from Kim Jong-un, Chairman of the Workers' Party Central Military Commission, stating, "We highly evaluate the remarkable contributions of the leading cadres and scientists in the national defense science research sector in the name of the Workers' Party of Korea and the government of the republic and order the awarding of military titles."
