Police Arrest 317 Individuals in 9 Months During 'Special Crackdown on Industrial Technology Leakage Offenders' Seodaemun-gu, Seoul Police Agency, National Investigation Headquarters

[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters announced on the 27th that it arrested 317 individuals during a "Special Crackdown on Industrial Technology Leakage" conducted from February to October this year.

By type of crime, trade secret leakage was the most frequent with 75 cases (74.2%), followed by breach of trust in business (14.8%) and industrial technology leakage (10.9%). The source of information leakage was internal insiders in 91% of cases. Additionally, leakage between domestic companies (89 cases) was more than seven times higher than leakage abroad (12 cases). By company size, small and medium-sized enterprises suffered 85 cases (84%), overwhelmingly surpassing large companies (16 cases).

The National Investigation Headquarters plans to prevent the outflow of core domestic industrial technologies and personnel by ▲ establishing a dedicated economic security investigation task force (TF) under the National Police Agency ▲ setting up dedicated investigation teams in the security divisions of 41 key police stations ▲ opening "Industrial Technology Leakage Reporting Centers" in 202 police stations. A police official urged, "If you suspect industrial technology leakage or have suffered damage, please report it to the 'Industrial Technology Leakage Reporting Center' on the National Police Agency website or visit/contact your nearest police station for consultation."
