[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] Argentina's leading daily newspaper has reported in detail on the friendship between Son Heung-min and Cristian Romero, an Argentine national football team player and Son's teammate at Tottenham.

On the 25th (local time), Argentina's La Naci?n published an article titled "2022 World Cup: The Amazing Friendship Between South Korea's Son Heung-min and Argentina's Cuti Romero," along with a photo of Son and Romero posing cutely with both hands on their respective balls. Born in 1998 and 24 years old, Romero is from C?rdoba, Argentina, and has been playing for Tottenham in the English Premier League since 2021. The friendship that began then has grown strong both on and off the pitch.

La Naci?n introduced Son Heung-min as the leader of South Korea's national football team at the 2022 Qatar World Cup and a player who has formed a partnership with Harry Kane over eight seasons at Tottenham. According to testimonies from teammates and videos posted on social media, he is described as a very lovable, emotional, and humane person.

Romero played in the first group stage match of Group C against Saudi Arabia on the 22nd but made several mistakes and was eventually substituted after a defensive failure led to a goal. Argentina, a strong favorite to win the World Cup, lost the match 1-2 to Saudi Arabia.

Afterwards, Son Heung-min, worried about Romero, sent him a message, carefully choosing thoughtful words to express his feelings. La Naci?n quoted Son saying, "I sent a message to Cuti (Romero's nickname) to ask if he was okay because he was injured before the tournament. I didn’t want to bother him, so I didn’t ask about the last match. He is one of my closest friends."

La Naci?n also shared several videos along with the article, showing Son Heung-min gently holding and adoring Romero’s son Valentino, who was born last year and is in Romero’s arms, as well as scenes of Son warmly embracing Romero after scoring a goal, conveying the special moments of their friendship. Additionally, La Naci?n provided detailed coverage of Son’s orbital fracture injury, surgery, and wearing of a facial mask, and mentioned Son’s Instagram bio stating, "No matter what happens in the world, I will not miss the World Cup."

Meanwhile, Romero visited South Korea in July to participate in the 'Coupang Play Series 2nd Match' preseason friendly. During his visit, he experienced various aspects of Korean culture, including drinking tea in traditional hanbok attire in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, and playing ddakji (Korean paper tile game), showing his status as a 'pro-Korean.'
