[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] Regarding the abuse case of the companion dog 'Boksuni' that occurred in Jeongeup, Jeonbuk, the police have referred three people, including the dog owner and the owner of a restaurant that serves dog meat, to the prosecution.

Jeongeup Police Station in Jeonbuk announced on the 25th that they have sent three people, including dog owner A and restaurant owner B, to the prosecution on charges of violating the Animal Protection Act. Earlier in August, the animal protection organization Beagle Rescue Network discovered Boksuni, who had severe injuries to her eyes and nose caused by a sharp weapon, at a restaurant in Jeongeup City and reported it to the police. According to the investigation, A took the abused dog from local resident C to a veterinary hospital, but since the hospital fees were expensive, A did not treat the dog and handed her over to B.

Boksuni had been praised in the neighborhood for saving her owner's life by barking loudly when the owner suffered a stroke several years ago. According to Beagle Rescue Network, the name Boksuni was given after she saved her owner. A police official stated, "If an animal is abused or an animal in need of treatment is caused to die without justifiable reason, they can be punished under the Animal Protection Act," adding, "We have referred the three people as the charges are believed to be proven."
