Minister Lee Jong-ho: "Yoon's Freedom and Human Rights Are Core Values of Digital Transformation"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-su] Minister Lee Jong-ho of the Ministry of Science and ICT explained that the 'freedom, human rights, and solidarity' announced by President Yoon Suk-yeol at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York last September are the core values of the digital transformation strategy. Minister Lee made this remark on the afternoon of the 25th in Seoul while meeting with Emilija Stojmenova Duh, Slovenia's Minister of Digital Innovation, to discuss cooperation plans related to digital transformation.

This meeting took place on the occasion of the Slovenian Minister of Digital Innovation's visit to Korea. Korea and Slovenia have maintained a long-standing cooperative relationship, having signed a science and technology cooperation agreement in 1994 and held the 1st Joint Committee on Science and Technology in 2008.

The two ministers discussed their countries' digital policies and current status, as well as the potential for research and development cooperation in core technologies such as semiconductors. In particular, Minister Lee introduced the 'New York Initiative,' a speech by President Yoon in New York last September regarding the digital order that global citizens should collectively pursue, and the 'Republic of Korea Digital Strategy' to realize this vision. The Ministry of Science and ICT explained, "Korea declared that it will pursue the universal human values of freedom, human rights, and solidarity as the core values of digital transformation," adding, "We expressed hope to wisely respond to digital transformation by sharing these values with Slovenia, a key Balkan Peninsula member of the European Union (EU)."

Additionally, regarding research on semiconductors and low-power electronic devices, areas in which Slovenia has shown great interest in cooperating with Korea, both sides agreed to seek mutually beneficial cooperation based on exchanges between research sites.

Minister Lee said, "It was an opportunity to learn about Slovenia's strong digital innovation will, a beautiful country famous for its representative port in Central and Eastern Europe," and added, "I hope today's meeting will lead to cooperation in various digital fields between the two countries, achieving mutually successful digital transformation."
