Child Born in 2015 Estimated to Have Died Around 100 Days After Birth
Autopsy Conducted at Police Request ... No Signs of Child Abuse, Case Closed
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jung-wan] It has been additionally confirmed that another child of parents who concealed the death of their 15-month-old daughter and hid the body in a kimchi container for three years died about 100 days after birth.
According to the Pocheon Police Station in Gyeonggi Province on the 25th, the biological mother A (34), who is suspected of violating the Child Welfare Act and concealing a corpse, gave birth to a child in December 2015 with her ex-husband B (29). This child was born about three years before the daughter born in October 2018, whose body was recently discovered.
The child born in 2015 is presumed to have died in sleep at about 100 days old. The parents took the deceased child to a hospital, and an autopsy was conducted at the request of a police station in Seoul. However, the case was closed as there were no special findings such as signs of child abuse.
About two and a half years later, in October 2018, daughter C was born and died again at 15 months old. However, A did not report the daughter's death and concealed the body. At the time of the daughter's death, ex-husband B was serving a prison sentence for a crime.
A left the body on the veranda of their home and later moved it in a carrier (travel bag) to her parents' house in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province. After B was released from prison that same year, the body was placed again in a kimchi container and stored on the rooftop of the family villa located in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul.
After the crime was uncovered, A claimed during police investigation, "I saw the child dead in the morning, and I did not report it because I thought I would be suspected of causing the child's death."
On the 16th, the police requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service on daughter C's body, which showed a hole on the left side of the skull. However, due to the severe decomposition of the body, it is necessary to conduct a detailed examination to determine whether the hole occurred before death.
Earlier, the police conducted a search and seizure at A's home in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, and her parents' house in Bucheon, initiating a forced investigation. They are also focusing on investigating whether there was any direct child abuse before the death.
