[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province is expected to accelerate the project as it has secured additional budget for land acquisition related to the rural tourism and leisure complex project 'Farm&Forest Town.'
Yongin City announced on the 25th that the 'Yongin Farm&Forest Town Development Project Related Public Property Management Plan,' which includes a project plan of 60 billion KRW, an increase of 25 billion KRW from the original 35 billion KRW budget, was approved by the Yongin City Council on the 23rd, enabling budget allocation for additional project site acquisition.
The Yongin Farm&Forest Town project involves investing 60 billion KRW to develop a complex with experience programs, accommodations, and a local agricultural specialty product sales center on site 224-3, Baekam-ri, Baekam-myeon, Cheoin-gu. The total area is 166,537㎡, equivalent to the size of 23 soccer fields.
The project’s public property management plan related to Farm&Forest was passed by the city council in April 2020, but the increase in land prices in Baekam-myeon, Cheoin-gu caused difficulties in purchasing the project site due to rising project costs.
In September, the city designated and announced Yongin Farm&Forest Town as a rural tourism and leisure complex, securing the authority for land expropriation.
A city official explained, "The smooth approval of the public property management plan related to Yongin Farm&Forest Town by the city council is the result of Mayor Lee Sang-il and the city council sharing the project’s purpose and communicating effectively," adding, "We will make Yongin Farm&Forest Town the premier destination for a refined Yongin tourism renaissance with leisure and stay."
