[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province will announce this month the revised "Development Activity Permit Operation Standards," which include a provision requiring the prior establishment of a "Low-Carbon and Eco-Friendly Development Plan" for large-scale developments, making it the first local government in the country to do so.
On the 25th, Yongin City stated that the revision of the operation standards was prepared to strengthen efforts to create a low-carbon green city amid the growing global seriousness of climate change issues such as global warming.
The announced "Development Activity Permit Operation Standards" include provisions to establish a landscaping plan that can compensate for damaged forests when developing large-scale forest areas exceeding a certain size by land-use zone, and to reduce the road slope rate within residential complexes from the current 15% to 10% during housing complex construction.
Additionally, the standards include clauses requiring the use of eco-friendly products for building and civil engineering materials and applying these in construction methods.
The city will present more detailed guidelines and will also promote a service project next year to enact related ordinances.
The service project will focus on analyzing the form and status of housing complexes within the jurisdiction and establishing detailed development activity permit standards considering residential convenience and safety, such as securing abundant green spaces, using eco-friendly and low-carbon materials, and preparing landslide prevention plans against localized or heavy rainfall.
A city official emphasized, "As citizens' demands for a pleasant and safe residential environment are increasing, we will strive to swiftly transition to eco-friendly and low-carbon development that harmonizes with nature and considers the future, thereby providing citizens with a more pleasant and safe living environment."
