[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] The Group G match between Switzerland and Cameroon at the Qatar World Cup ended with a victory for Switzerland.


Switzerland won 1-0 in the first group stage match of Group G in the '2022 FIFA Qatar World Cup' against Cameroon, held at Al Janoub Stadium in Qatar at 7 PM (Korean time) on the 24th.


Switzerland deployed a 4-4-1 formation. Yann Sommer, Ricardo Rodriguez, Nico Elvedi, Manuel Akanji, Silvan Widmer, Granit Xhaka, Remo Freuler, Vargas, Djibril Sow, Shaqiri, and Breel Embolo started the match.


Cameroon chose a 4-3-3 formation. Andre Onana, Nuhu Tolo, Collins Fai, Nicolas Nkoulou, Jean-Charles Castelletto, Samuel Umtiti Gwet, Karl Toko Ekambi, Zambo Anguissa, Moumi Ngamaleu, Martin Hongla, and Choupo-Moting took the field.


In the 9th minute of the first half, Cameroon launched a quick counterattack, and Mboumbou took a left-footed shot, but Sommer blocked it. Ekambi, who was making a run, followed up with a shot, but it went over the goal. In the 13th minute, Choupo-Moting dribbled past defenders and took a left-footed shot, but Sommer blocked it again, and a foul was called before the shot.


Switzerland increased ball possession and developed their attacks. Early on, they struggled to break through Cameroon's defense easily. Cameroon defended well and troubled Switzerland with quick counterattacks. In the 29th minute, Hongla joined the shooting through short passing play.


Cameroon had another chance. In the 34th minute, Ekambi attempted a shot while making a run on a cross from the right side, but he missed the ball. In the 40th minute, Choupo-Moting shot inside the box, but Elvedi blocked it with his body.


The first goal came in the second half. At the 2nd minute of the second half, Shaqiri crossed from the right flank, and Embolo neatly pushed the ball in with his right foot, gaining the lead. In the 11th minute, Choupo-Moting broke through and took a shot but failed to score.


At the 37th minute of the second half, Leader delivered a sharp cross aiming for an additional goal, but it did not lead to a shot. There were no further goals, and the match ended with Switzerland 1, Cameroon 0.
