"Personal Judicial Issues, Political Parties Intervening Lose Public Support"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Juhee] Kim Jongmin, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, expressed opposition to the party-level response to the judicial risks faced by Representative Lee Jae-myung, stating, "The moment we are labeled as a 'bulletproof party' for Lee Jae-myung, it actually becomes easier for the prosecution to handle the case."
On the 23rd, Kim appeared on CBS Radio's 'Park Jaehong's One-on-One Match' and said, "We fought for two years during the Cho Kuk incident and learned something. We must never follow the items the prosecution throws at us," emphasizing this point.
Kim stated, "Judicial issues are not about debating whether political claims are just or unjust, but about disputing factual matters," adding, "There is no need to fight over that. The prosecution has made unilateral claims, and since the process of objectively proving them is underway, the facts of this issue should be disputed between the person involved (Representative Lee) and his lawyers."
He continued, "If the party leadership steps in to fight this battle, public opinion turns to 'Do you really know the facts? You probably don't. Then, are you politically defending yourselves to be bulletproof? You are also at fault.' This is a mistake," pointing out that the party should be cautious about intervening in judicial matters.
Kim argued that the Democratic Party becoming a bulletproof party would actually play into political attacks, saying, "Why should our leadership and party engage in debates over whether Kim Yong and Jeong Jinsang, close aides of the detained Representative Lee, did wrong or not? That would only assist the political scheme of the Yoon Seok-yeol prosecution and administration to create a bulletproof party."
He added, "What the party should do is properly fight against excessive or illegal investigations by the prosecution," emphasizing, "If the party politically defends individual judicial issues, the public will not respond positively. Our goal is to convey to the people that 'We are a party for the people's livelihood and democracy, and we are being oppressed,' and to prevent the Yoon Seok-yeol prosecution from further encroachment and oppression."
