"Person Who Saw the Drinking Party 'Testifies' It Was a Lie"
"If This Testimony Is True, Regret for the Person Who First Publicized the Suspicion"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Kim Eui-gyeom, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, expressed regret on the 24th regarding the allegations of the ‘Cheongdam-dong drinking party’ which President Yoon Seok-yeol and others were claimed to have attended. However, he stated that if he receives similar reports again, he would ask the same questions.
On the same day, Representative Kim released a statement through social media (SNS).
He said, "The person who claimed to have seen the so-called ‘Cheongdam-dong drinking party’ reportedly testified to the police that it was a lie," adding, "If this testimony is true, as the person who first publicly raised this allegation, I express my sincere regret to President Yoon Seok-yeol and those involved."
Representative Kim added, "However, I believe that receiving serious reports related to state affairs and verifying them during the National Assembly audit is something a lawmaker must naturally do," and said, "Even if I were to go back to that day, I could not refrain from asking the same questions." He continued, "I will continue to fulfill my ‘duty and responsibility’ to ask and question on behalf of the people."
On the 24th of last month, Representative Kim raised the ‘Cheongdam-dong drinking party allegations’ against Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon during the National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee audit. Representative Kim claimed that President Yoon, Minister Han, and about 30 lawyers from Kim & Chang gathered at this drinking party and drank late into the night. At the time, Representative Kim raised the allegations by revealing conversations of the boyfriend of a cellist who claimed to have been present at the gathering.
