[Asia Economy Reporter La Youngcheol] The Jungdo Headquarters (Chuncheon Jungdo Seonsa Archaeological Site Preservation Headquarters), a Gangwon civic group that raised various illegal allegations surrounding former Gangwon Governor Choi Moon-soon, Chuncheon Legoland, and Jungdo Development Corporation (GJC), has urged the Gangwon Provincial Council to audit the Legoland project.
The Jungdo Headquarters stated, "On the 23rd, we visited the office of Kwon Hyuk-ryeol, chairman of the Gangwon Provincial Council, and delivered a document titled 'Request for Audit of Chuncheon Legoland Project' to all 49 council members."
The inquiries disclosed by the Jungdo Headquarters include ▲ expected tourism revenue if the entire Jungdo archaeological site is preserved ▲ the penalty amount Gangwon Province must pay to Merlin if Jungdo Development Corporation goes bankrupt ▲ punishment for Merlin, which subleased the Jungdo archaeological site received as free rent ▲ punishment for the crime of illegally dumping waste due to the high cost of sand at the Jungdo archaeological site ▲ civil and criminal penalties against the 33 Democratic Party council members who signed the Legoland MDA and former Governor Choi Moon-soon.
Through the inquiry letter, the Jungdo Headquarters emphasized, "Important information regarding the Legoland project, which involved the investment of hundreds of billions of won in taxpayers' money, must be disclosed to the public," and added, "If there is no response to the inquiries, we will consider it a dereliction of duty by the council members and file criminal charges for breach of trust and other offenses."
They further claimed, "The Gangwon Jungdo Development Corporation (GJC), which conducted the project with Gangwon Province's taxpayers' money, illegally dumped a large amount of waste, damaging the Jungdo archaeological site."
Earlier, on the 15th, the Jungdo Headquarters filed a complaint against GJC and other Legoland operators for violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes.
The Jungdo Headquarters stated, "Gangwon Province spent 209.8 billion won from national, provincial, and city funds on the Legoland project, and GJC, responsible for the Legoland development, invested 454.2 billion won, most of which was directly or indirectly invested by Gangwon Province."
Meanwhile, former Governor Choi Moon-soon was handed over to the prosecution on charges of obstructing the bidding for the sale of Pyeongchang Alpensia, and on the 10th, he was reported to the police as the cause of the Legoland incident.
