[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Seoyul] The European Union (EU) Parliament has designated Russia as a 'state sponsor of terrorism.'
According to major foreign media, on the 23rd (local time), the European Parliament passed a resolution designating Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism in relation to Russia's war in Ukraine.
Through the resolution, the European Parliament stated, "Russia's deliberate attacks and atrocities against Ukrainian civilians, destruction of civilian infrastructure, and other serious human rights violations and breaches of international human rights law constitute acts of terrorism."
The resolution has no legal follow-up measures, and major foreign media have evaluated that it holds symbolic significance only.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the European Parliament's action on Twitter. President Zelensky said, "To stop Russia's long-standing terrorism policy against Ukraine and the world, Russia must be isolated on all levels and held accountable."
