Implementing Field-Responsive Administration Aligned with Residents' Perspectives
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Lee Byeongno, the mayor of Damyang County, is gaining attention for implementing customized and empathetic administration that residents can truly feel.
Since taking office, Mayor Lee has been visiting sites daily and listening to the opinions of county residents, fostering understanding and empathy among the residents through communicative administration.
In particular, he is focusing administrative efforts on resolving various complaints heard during site visits and reforming unreasonable regulations that cause inconvenience to residents.
To this end, a dedicated complaint handling team has been operated within the Jikso Civil Complaints Office, processing about 280 on-site complaints over the five months of the 8th local government term.
Alongside this, the Open Mayor’s Office has resolved about 150 complaints received there, as well as around 30 complaints submitted through the relevant departments and town and township offices.
Additionally, by opening a “Voice of Residents” section on the county office website and resolving approximately 120 complaints received there, the complaint resolution rate has increased significantly by more than 37% compared to the first half of the year.
A resident named Kim living in Damyang-eup said, “Since the 8th local government term began, the ways to submit complaints have diversified, and the response to complaints is also faster. I am very satisfied as it seems the opinions of residents are properly conveyed.”
The regulatory reform emphasized at the time of inauguration is also gaining momentum. To revitalize the economy and resolve residents’ difficulties through swift and bold deregulation, a Regulatory Reform Committee has been established and put into operation.
The committee aims for “regulatory reform that minimizes inconvenience to residents” by revising the “Damyang County Regulatory Reform Committee Establishment and Operation Ordinance,” making multifaceted efforts such as reducing ex officio members and expanding appointed civilian members to secure expertise.
Mayor Lee Byeongno stated, “Going forward, based on the principles of listening and serving, I will listen to voices from the field and identify problems from the perspective of the field. The new Damyang in the 8th local government term will focus all administrative power on empathetic administration that residents can truly feel as the top priority.”
