[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Eastar Jet announced on the 23rd that it has appointed Kim Munkwon, CEO of Seongjeong, as its new CEO.
CEO Kim graduated from Busan High School and Seoul National University with a degree in Media and Communication. He worked at Korean Air and Korea Economic Daily, and served as a policy advisor at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. Afterwards, he was Executive Director of External Affairs at Air Premia and CEO of the small airline NF Air. He joined Seongjeong in August.
An Eastar Jet official explained, “New CEO Kim Munkwon is an external cooperation expert with a high understanding of the aviation sector. As CEO of Seongjeong, he will focus on overcoming the current crisis and normalization under a responsible management system.”
Former executives, including former lawmaker and Eastar Jet founder Lee Sangjik, were indicted on charges of irregular hiring in the past, leading former CEO Kim Yusang to resign from his position.
Eastar Jet recently received a police clearance regarding allegations of submitting false documents during the process of obtaining an international air transport business license. The airline is currently preparing to resume operations.
