Ulsan City Promotes Additional COVID-19 Vaccinations to Prevent Winter Spread

Workers in Infection-Vulnerable Facilities and Seniors Aged 60 and Over Must Get Vaccinated

Ulsan City Promotes Additional COVID-19 Vaccinations to Prevent Winter Spread Ulsan City Hall.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Ulsan City is promoting additional COVID-19 vaccinations due to concerns about a resurgence of the virus during the winter season.

The city announced that Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom and heads of departments will visit Nam-gu Health Center at 10:15 a.m. on the 23rd to receive the winter COVID-19 booster shots and encourage citizens to participate in vaccination.

This winter booster vaccination is being administered because immunity significantly decreases over time after the initial vaccination, and the immune effect against the Omicron variant is reduced. To enhance protection against reinfection, an improved bivalent vaccine will be given.

In particular, Ulsan City has designated the period from November 21 to December 18 as the "Winter COVID-19 Bivalent Vaccine Intensive Vaccination Period" to vigorously encourage vaccinations in preparation for the winter resurgence.

The booster vaccines include three types of bivalent vaccines: Moderna BA.1, Pfizer BA.1, and Pfizer BA.4/5. These vaccines are expected to provide protection against the currently prevalent BA.5 variant, future dominant variants, severe illness, and infection prevention.

Vaccinations can be received on the same day at the site by reserving leftover vaccines through Naver or KakaoTalk or by contacting medical institutions by phone. Vaccinations are also available through advance reservations on the official website or by phone reservation (Health Center Call Center).

A city official stated, "With concerns about the COVID-19 outbreak ahead of winter, we strongly urge workers in infection-vulnerable facilities such as nursing hospitals and seniors aged 60 and over, who are at high risk of severe illness and death, to receive the additional vaccination."
