[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] Supporters of former President Park Geun-hye filed a lawsuit against the state and the Constitutional Court justices, claiming that the Constitutional Court's impeachment decision was unjust, but they lost in the first trial.
On the afternoon of the 22nd, Judge Kyung Jeong-won of the Seoul Central District Court Civil Division 207 ruled against the plaintiffs in the first trial of a damages claim lawsuit worth about 140 million won filed by 480 people, including former Monthly Chosun reporter Woo Jong-chang, against the state, former Acting President of the Constitutional Court Lee Jeong-mi, and former Constitutional Court justices Kim Yi-su, Lee Jin-sung, Kim Chang-jong, Ahn Chang-ho, Kang Il-won, Seo Ki-seok, and Jo Yong-ho.
Judge Kyung stated, "Based solely on the evidence submitted by the plaintiffs, it is difficult to conclude that there are special circumstances warranting the state's liability for damages due to the Constitutional Court justices' official acts."
Earlier, supporters of former President Park claimed that the Constitutional Court misjudged the facts in deciding to impeach former President Park Geun-hye, and that they suffered damages due to this unjust decision, filing the lawsuit in April 2017.
