[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Jeong Jin-sang, Chief Political Coordinator of the Democratic Party of Korea's Representative Office, was arrested by the prosecution on the 19th, prompting the opposition party to strongly respond, stating, "The Democratic Party will never tolerate the destruction of the opposition or the killing of Party Leader Lee Jae-myung."

Park Hong-geun, Floor Leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said at the party's Supreme Council meeting on the 21st, "The essence of the arrest of Kim Yong, Deputy Director of the Democratic Research Institute, and Chief Jeong is the Yoon Seok-yeol administration's attempt to kill Lee Jae-myung."

He stated, "The investigation leading to Chief Jeong's arrest is unjust," adding, "The investigation relied on the unilateral testimony of former Seongnam Urban Development Corporation Director Yoo Dong-gyu rather than evidence, which ultimately led to the arrest."

He continued, "Chief Jeong responded sincerely to the prosecution's investigation and fully cooperated with all requested searches," and criticized, "The claim of evidence destruction is groundless. Nevertheless, I express serious concern over the arrest of a public official who is the Chief Political Coordinator of the main opposition party's leader on grounds of evidence destruction and flight risk."

On the same day, Party Leader Lee also mentioned the livelihood economy, saying, "It is regrettable that national power, which should be used to overcome the crisis, is being wasted on destroying the opposition," and emphasized, "No matter what oppression comes from the prosecution dictatorship regime, the Democratic Party will steadfastly take care of the livelihood and economy and protect peace and security."

Supreme Council members also raised critical voices regarding the prosecution's investigation. Supreme Council Member Im Seon-suk said, "Democracy becomes stronger in the process of fighting forces that threaten democracy," and stated, "Now is the time to firmly unite against the Yoon administration and political prosecution's attempt to kill the opposition leader and destroy the opposition."

Supreme Council Member Jeong Cheong-rae also said, "The prosecution says that Leader Lee and I are a political community, and I am also part of the political community with Leader Lee," questioning, "All the Supreme Council members, lawmakers, and party members here are a political community; what is wrong with that?" He added, "Is engaging in politics itself a crime?" and said, "I want to ask if the prosecution is not a political community with President Yoon and the Yoon administration."
