The Korean Society for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Launches 'Understanding Aortic Aneurysm' Campaign

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The Aortic Research Society under the Korean Society for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery announced on the 21st that it will launch the "Understanding Aortic Aneurysm" campaign to provide accurate information about aortic diseases and conduct precise education on symptoms and treatments.

An aortic aneurysm is a condition in which the aorta expands and balloons like a balloon. Most patients have no noticeable symptoms, making it difficult to detect, and if left untreated, it can lead to death due to rupture, earning it the nickname "time bomb." Although early detection and appropriate treatment are crucial, the incidence rate is lower compared to other cardiovascular diseases, and it is not well known, resulting in many cases not being diagnosed or treated.

Accordingly, the Aortic Research Society has launched the "Understanding Aortic Aneurysm" YouTube channel to provide accurate information about aortic aneurysms and improve disease awareness.

A total of six videos released feature eight medical professionals affiliated with the Aortic Research Society. Starting with cardiovascular health and aortic aneurysms (Song Seok-won, Jeong Ui-seok), the videos cover ▲ current status and types of aortic aneurysms, treatment rates in Japan vs. Korea (Choi Jae-woong, Kim Wan-gi) ▲ treatment options for aortic aneurysms (Kim Hee-jung, Joo Seok-jung) ▲ aortic aneurysm procedure process (Jeong Su-ryeon, Kim Tae-hoon) ▲ useful information before aortic aneurysm procedures (Kim Tae-hoon, Kim Wan-gi) ▲ prevention and response measures upon detection of aortic aneurysms (Song Seok-won, Jeong Ui-seok), delivering key information about the disease.

Professor Song Seok-won of the Department of Cardiology at Gangnam Severance Hospital said, "Aortic aneurysms are dangerous diseases that can threaten life if left untreated. Among patients who experience rupture of thoracic aortic aneurysms, only 41% arrive at the hospital alive," adding, "Through this campaign video, we aim to raise awareness of the risks of aortic aneurysms and emphasize the importance of early detection for disease prevention and treatment."
