Mutual Cooperation in the Transmission and Promotion of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] The National Gugak Center (Director Kim Youngwoon) announced on the 21st that it has signed a business agreement with Gangneung City (Mayor Kim Honggyu) to mutually cooperate for the transmission and dissemination of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage and the promotion and development of Gugak.
Taking this agreement as an opportunity, both organizations plan to work together to support performances, education and experience programs, cooperate in facility utilization, conduct research on traditional Korean musical instruments, exchange academic information on intangible cultural heritage, and jointly hold exchange activities.
As part of this business agreement, the National Gugak Center and Gangneung City held a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage exchange performance on the 20th at the Gangneung Arts Center Saimdang Hall, showcasing Jongmyo Jeryeak and Gangneung Dano Gut.
Kim Youngwoon, Director of the National Gugak Center, stated, “Through this business agreement, from academic research to performances, both organizations will strive to convey the value of Korea’s UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, which they preserve and promote, to many citizens.”
