[Seoul District News] Kim Tae-woo, Mayor of Gangseo-gu, Continues 16 Years of Neighborly Love with Saemaeul Women's Association in 'Gangseo Market Love Kimchi Sharing'... Mapo-gu to Host Foreigners' Kimchi Experience Event at Gwangheungdang on the 19th
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Kim Tae-woo, Mayor of Gangseo District Office in Seoul, took the lead in walking alongside socially vulnerable groups by participating in kimchi-making sharing for the underprivileged in the area on the 18th.
He visited the ‘Love Kimchi Sharing’ event held at Gangseo Market and personally made kimchi with about 200 participants, including Saemaeul Women's Association members, Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation, and distribution organizations.
Hosted by the Gangseo Saemaeul Women's Association (President Lee Yang-ja) and the Gangseo branch of the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (Branch Manager Lee Ni-se), the event was organized to share the difficulties of vulnerable groups.
The kimchi made with one heart and one mind by the participants amounted to 9,000 heads of napa cabbage, totaling 14 tons, which will be delivered to low-income families and welfare facilities in the region.
Before the event, Mayor Kim Tae-woo also attended the ‘Love Kimchi Sharing’ held at Banghwa 1-dong Community Center, where he made kimchi with residents, practicing love for neighbors.
The 800 heads of kimchi prepared by Banghwa 1-dong civic groups and residents will be distributed in 5kg portions to 400 households of socially marginalized groups, including the disabled and elderly living alone.
Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “I deeply thank everyone who extended a warm hand to our neighbors in need,” adding, “The district office will also spare no interest and support so that vulnerable groups can spend a warm winter.”
The Saemaeul Women's Association and the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation have been continuously carrying out the ‘Love Kimchi Sharing’ event since 2007, maintaining steady neighborly love.
Especially during the past two years when the event could not be held due to COVID-19, they practiced sharing by purchasing finished kimchi products and delivering them to socially marginalized groups in the area.
Mapo District (Mayor Park Kang-soo) held a unique kimchi-making event with foreigners on the 19th at Gwangheungdang, a traditional hanok cultural space.
Hosted by the Mapo Cultural Center, about 60 participants, including Park Kang-soo, Mayor of Mapo District, foreigners residing in Korea, and volunteers, gathered to make and taste kimchi, Korea’s representative dish.
In particular, foreigners of various nationalities such as Indonesia, Russia, Nepal, Mongolia, the Philippines, and Myanmar wore traditional costumes and had a meaningful time communicating through kimchi by mixing spicy seasoning with salted napa cabbage.
Mayor Park Kang-soo, who participated in the event, said, “I hope this kimchi-making event will be an opportunity for foreigners to develop a deeper interest and attraction to kimchi and Korean cuisine.”
