Seodaemun-gu 'Human Rights Content Contest Winning Works' Utilization Cases

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Seongheon) is holding various events to commemorate the 74th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (December 10, 1948), including a human rights special lecture, an awards ceremony and exhibition for human rights content contests, and a horizontal and vertical human rights word quiz event.

The human rights special lecture, to be held at 3 p.m. on December 8 in the Planning Situation Room of the district office, will feature Professor Seo Changrok of Korea University Graduate School of International Studies, the first Korean member of the UN Human Rights Committee, as the speaker.

Professor Seo will communicate with the audience about concerns regarding human rights in daily life, and how to protect human dignity amid the Fourth Industrial Revolution, pandemics, and the climate crisis.

Following this, at 3 p.m. on December 9, the district office’s main conference room will host the awards ceremony for the ‘2022 Human Rights Works Contest.’ Previously, the district held contests for slogans, posters, and card news under the themes of spreading a culture of respect for human rights and fostering human rights sensitivity.

From grand prize winners to encouragement awardees, the winning works and promotional pieces by the Seodaemun-gu Human Rights Residents’ Council (monitoring group) will be exhibited from December 1 to 14 on Seodaemun-gu Office’s official YouTube channel and in the district office plaza.

The district is also organizing a ‘Horizontal and Vertical Human Rights Word Quiz’ event through the December issue of the district newsletter ‘Seodaemun Madang.’

The quiz presents questions using the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and participants complete the blanks with the correct answers and submit their entries via email from December 1 to 14. The district will draw 100 winners to receive mobile gift certificates worth 5,000 won each.

Lee Seongheon, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, said, “Through this human rights cultural event, we hope the meaning and value of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights will be widely shared and that a culture of respect for human rights will spread throughout the community.”
