[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] In Kenya, a building collapse has resulted in five deaths over three days.
On the 17th (local time), local media reported that authorities stated a six-story building under construction in the Ruaka area of Kiambu County, on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya's capital, collapsed and buried a nearby residential area, killing two people. Three members of a family were rescued from another house next to the collapsed building and were transported to a nearby hospital.
The county fire department said, "It is estimated that there are more people buried, and we are conducting rescue operations in cooperation with the Red Cross and military police." The collapsed building was reportedly constructed without official permission.
In Kenya, as housing demand has recently increased, real estate developers are ignoring local building regulations and rapidly constructing buildings indiscriminately. On the 15th, a multi-story building under unauthorized construction also collapsed in the Kasarani area of Nairobi, resulting in three deaths.
