True Resident Autonomy Led by Residents

Damyang-gun Wins Minister of the Interior and Safety Award at the 21st National Resident Autonomy Expo

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] The Yongmyeon Residents' Autonomy Committee of Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 17th that it participated in the regional revitalization category at the 21st National Residents' Autonomy Expo held at BEXCO in Busan and won the Excellence Award (Minister of the Interior and Safety Award).

The contest, hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Busan Metropolitan City, and the Open Society Citizens' Coalition from the 10th to the 12th, received a total of 320 submissions nationwide, with 60 sites selected as final excellent cases, and exhibition booths were operated for three days and two nights at BEXCO in Busan.

Yongmyeon Residents' Autonomy Committee was the only excellent case selected from Jeollanam-do to participate, and the booth was themed around Yongdamae (愛) 'Unmanned Village Sharing Cafe + Sharing (Communication Refrigerator)', Yongdamae (愛) The Hagi 'Sharing Hair Salon + Small Lifelong Learning Center', and the resident-led opinion gathering Yongmyeon Residents' General Assembly.

The committee received high praise for residents leading the resolution of local issues such as population decline and aging, increased care demand due to the rise of single-person households, lack of cultural life opportunities for transportation-vulnerable groups, and the emergence of welfare blind spots.

In particular, in May, the village sharing cafe Yongdamae (愛) was selected as a model case of resident life innovation by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and in addition, the excellent cases of the Yongmyeon Residents' Autonomy Committee were introduced in several broadcasts such as KTV National Broadcasting and KBS Namdo Geography.

Chairman Jang Jungyeop said, “I would like to express my deep gratitude to all those who cooperated in operating the booth, including Secretary Woo Jimin, who oversaw all preparations for this expo,” and added, “We will do our best to become a leading residents' autonomy committee nationwide in the future.”
