"13 Billion Won Paid to Husband in Property Division"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] The first trial of the divorce lawsuit of former Korean Air Vice President Cho Hyun-ah (48), which lasted for 4 years and 7 months, has concluded.
On the afternoon of the 17th, the Family Agreement Division 4 of the Seoul Family Court (Chief Judge Seo Hyeong-ju) ruled 'divorce' in the first trial of the divorce and custody designation lawsuit between former Vice President Cho and her husband Park.
The court ordered former Vice President Cho to pay Park 1.33 billion won as property division. Former Vice President Cho was designated as the custodian of the children. Park was ordered to pay 1.2 million won per child monthly as child support.
Previously, former Vice President Cho married plastic surgeon Park in October 2010 and had twin children. Park filed a divorce lawsuit against former Vice President Cho at the Seoul Family Court in April 2018, eight years after their marriage, also requesting custody of the children.
Park's side claimed that verbal abuse and physical violence from former Vice President Cho continued during their marriage. They stated that after the so-called 'nut rage' incident in December 2014, the frequency of violence increased, making it difficult to maintain the marriage, and alleged that former Vice President Cho abused the twins.
On the other hand, former Vice President Cho's side countered that the marriage became difficult due to Park's alcoholism. They also stated that the child abuse allegations were "unfounded."
Meanwhile, in February 2019, Park filed charges against former Vice President Cho for special injury and child abuse under the Child Welfare Act. In April 2020, the court applied the injury charge to former Vice President Cho and issued a summary order of a 3 million won fine. The child abuse charges were dismissed at the prosecution stage.
