[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] On the 17th, the Gwangsan Police Station in Gwangju announced that it has formed a Foreign Affairs Security Cooperation Committee to prevent crimes involving foreigners.
The committee discusses measures to prevent crimes against foreigners and promotes projects for coexistence between domestic and foreign residents.
It also listens to residents' opinions and suggestions regarding safety in areas densely populated by foreigners.
The committee includes related organizations such as Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Immigration Office, Gwangju Regional Employment and Labor Office, and the nonprofit organization Goryeoin Center.
To support legal counseling, health, and employment labor sectors, Law Firm Min, Suwan Central Hospital, and workplaces related to foreigners also participated.
The committee chairman is Police Superintendent General Jeong Jin-gwan, Chief of Gwangsan Police Station. The National Police Agency manages areas with high foreign affairs security demand as Foreign Affairs Safety Zones by comprehensively considering the number of foreigners, the number of foreign suspects, and recommendations from metropolitan and provincial police agencies among major foreigner-dense areas nationwide.
Wolgok-dong in Gwangsan-gu has a foreigner ratio of 14.4% among the total residents, and foreigner-related crimes occur above the national average, leading to its designation in September as the first Foreign Affairs Safety Zone in the Gwangju and Jeonnam region.
