[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, the world's top home appliance rivals, set new records for their respective companies by sweeping the Best Innovation Awards in the TV category ahead of the world's largest electronics exhibition, the 'International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023,' held in January next year. Samsung Electronics received the Best Innovation Award for its 2023 TV new products for the 12th consecutive year, while LG Electronics also earned the Best Innovation Award with its OLED Flex gaming monitor.


On the 17th, both companies announced these achievements following the announcement of the 28 categories of CES Innovation Award-winning products and technologies by the U.S. Consumer Technology Association (CTA).


First, Samsung Electronics swept a total of 46 Innovation Awards, including 18 in video displays, 11 in mobile, 10 in home appliances, and 7 in semiconductors. The 46 Innovation Awards matched the record set at 'CES 2020' for the most awards. Samsung won 2 Best Innovation Awards in video displays and 1 in semiconductors. In particular, Samsung stated that its 2023 TV new products demonstrated leadership as the global No. 1 in the TV market by winning the Best Innovation Award for 12 consecutive years. The gaming monitor also won the Best Innovation Award for the second consecutive year, following last year.


LG Electronics was no less impressive. It won 28 Innovation Awards through LG OLED TVs and others. Among them, the LG OLED Flex won the Best Innovation Award in the Gaming category and the Innovation Award in the Video Display category. Regarding this, LG Electronics explained, "It was recognized for form factor innovation and overwhelming picture quality that only OLED can realize."

Both companies also showed strength in home appliances. Samsung Electronics received awards for products and technologies such as 'Bespoke' appliances and 'SmartThings'-based services in the home appliance category. It swept 10 Innovation Awards, the most ever in this category. The 'Bespoke AI Washing Machine and Dryer' received an Innovation Award for its 'AI Customized Washing and Drying' function, which uses AI technology to suggest optimized courses based on laundry. 'SmartThings Energy,' equipped with energy usage management and an 'AI Saving Mode' function for appliances, was also selected.


LG Electronics won Innovation Awards in the home appliance field with premium air purifiers and cordless vacuum cleaners equipped with world-class technology. A representative product is the 'LG PuriCare AeroFurniture,' which won an Innovation Award in the Air Purifiers category. It is a new concept table-type air purifier that can be used in various spaces such as bedrooms and studies according to customer situations. The premium cordless vacuum cleaner, LG CordZero A9S new product, also received a CES Innovation Award.


Samsung also won awards in mobile and semiconductors. In the mobile category, various products and technologies, including the recently released and highly acclaimed 'Galaxy Z Fold4,' 'Galaxy Z Flip4,' 'Galaxy Watch5 Pro,' and 'Samsung Wallet,' received Innovation Awards. In the semiconductor category, the industry's first biometric authentication card solution 'Fingerprint Authentication IC (S3B512C),' which integrates a hardware security chip, fingerprint sensor, and security processor into a single IC chip called 'One Chip,' won the Best Innovation Award.


Additionally, Samsung received Innovation Awards for newly released high-performance large-capacity storage devices such as the SSD '990 PRO with Heatsink,' the automotive high-capacity 1TB (terabyte) BGA NVMe SSD, and the industry's smallest 0.56μm pixel size 200-megapixel image sensor 'ISOCELL HP3.'


CES Innovation Award-winning products can be seen at the Las Vegas Convention Center in the United States from January 5 to 8 next year.
