[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] Former U.S. President Donald Trump has won a lawsuit related to inheritance against his niece Mary Trump, major foreign media reported on the 16th (local time).
Mary is the daughter of Donald Fred Jr., the older brother of former President Trump who died in 1981.
In September 2020, Mary filed a lawsuit against President Trump, her aunt Maryanne, and her late uncle Robert. Mary claimed that after her grandfather Fred passed away in 1999, her uncle and aunt conspired to embezzle tens of millions of dollars of her share of Fred's inheritance. She also alleged that former President Trump and others threatened her, saying they would face financial ruin if she did not relinquish her stake.
However, the New York State Manhattan District Court dismissed Mary's inheritance return lawsuit on the 14th, ruling in favor of former President Trump.
The court judged that Mary could not file such a lawsuit, citing that she had previously filed a lawsuit related to her grandfather's inheritance in 2000 and reached a settlement in 2001. At that time, Mary had even drafted and signed a settlement agreement with former President Trump and others.
Mary's legal team responded to the dismissal by saying, "It seems the court overlooked past precedents. It is very disappointing." However, they stated that since the defendants, including former President Trump, are elderly and Trump aims to run in the 2024 presidential election, they will promptly appeal. This is interpreted as an intention to obstruct Trump's return to the presidency until the end.
Mary, a clinical psychologist, published a revealing memoir titled TOO MUCH AND NEVER ENOUGH ahead of the 2020 election, which became a bestseller. The title means "already excessive but never satisfied."
In this book, Mary claimed that former President Trump was a dishonest, lacking empathy "narcissist" and "sociopath." She also alleged that Trump was admitted to the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School through fraudulent means.
