Ulsan Library, selected as an excellent operating library for the Booknarae service this year, received the Director of the National Library for the Disabled Award.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Ulsan Library has been selected as an excellent operating library for the Booknarae Service this year, hosted by the National Library for the Disabled, and received the Director Award of the National Library for the Disabled.
The Booknarae Service is a service that has been delivering necessary library materials free of charge to the homes of people with disabilities who have difficulty visiting libraries since 2011.
This year, 12 institutions were finally selected as excellent operating libraries by evaluating the one-year performance of 1,084 libraries nationwide for the Booknarae Service.
Ulsan Library was selected as an excellent operating library by actively implementing lending services for people with disabilities as an excellent service library in the Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam, and Ulsan regions.
In addition, the library also operates a service that delivers books free of charge to reading-vulnerable groups who have difficulty visiting the library, such as seniors aged 65 or older, pregnant women, guardians of children under 12 months, and guardians of three or more children including those under 8 years old.
First implemented in March 2021, this service has received positive responses from users, with the number of users increasing by 64% from 280 last year to 435 this year.
A library official said, “We will continue to strive to bridge the information gap so that anyone can access the materials they want without discrimination through services for reading-vulnerable groups who have difficulty visiting libraries, such as people with disabilities.”
The Booknarae Service and free delivery service for reading-vulnerable groups are available after signing up and approval on the Ulsan Library website, and users can borrow up to five books per person for 30 days.
