[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Gumi City has been finally confirmed as the host city for the 62nd Gyeongbuk Provincial Sports Festival in 2024.


This event is the largest sports competition in the province, with over 20,000 athletes participating in 29 events from 23 cities and counties. It will be held in Gumi City for the first time in 12 years since the 50th Gyeongbuk Provincial Sports Festival in 2012.


Based on its experience hosting various national competitions such as the 102nd National Sports Festival in 2021, the city expects to successfully host the 62nd Gyeongbuk Provincial Sports Festival, widely promoting the city's status both domestically and internationally, while boosting citizens' pride. It is anticipated to be a festival of unity that leads the harmony of 3 million provincial residents, bringing everyone together as one.


With the successful bid for this event, the Gyeongbuk Disabled Sports Festival, Gyeongbuk Provincial Residents' Life Festival, and Gyeongbuk Senior Citizens' Life Sports Festival are expected to follow, greatly impacting the revitalization of the local economy.


Kim Jang-ho, Mayor of Gumi City, stated, “It is a very meaningful achievement to have secured the 62nd Gyeongbuk Provincial Sports Festival in Gumi, and we will prepare thoroughly to ensure a successful event by maximizing the capabilities of our citizens.”
