[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 15th, Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo District, launched the ‘Bihengbunseok (Empty, Rinse, Separate, Do Not Mix) Campaign’ to reduce the use of disposable products in daily life amid the rapid increase in disposable items due to the spread of delivery culture and surge in online transactions during the COVID-19 pandemic.


Mayor Park Gang-su toured areas with high foot traffic such as Mangwon Station, Mangwon Market, and World Cup Market, informing residents about the strengthened regulations on disposable product usage effective from November 24, urging participation in the use of reusable containers and proper waste separation.

On the afternoon of the 15th, Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, held a plaque ceremony for the Snow Removal Task Force in the Disaster Prevention Comprehensive Situation Room on the 5th floor of the district office and inspected the snow removal preparations with department heads.


The Yeongdeungpo Snow Removal Task Force officially began operations with the plaque ceremony, aiming to minimize citizen inconvenience through a proactive snow removal response system, special management of vulnerable areas, and encouraging voluntary participation in snow removal. It will operate for four months until March 15, 2023.


Mayor Choi Ho-kwon said, “There is no such thing as too much preparation to protect the lives and safety of our residents,” and urged thorough preparations to prevent any damage caused by heavy snowfall during winter.

Seocho District (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) signed a business agreement on the afternoon of the 15th at the Central Conference Room on the 7th floor of the Seoul National University of Education headquarters to establish an organic cooperative relationship for ‘nurturing future talents and revitalizing the local economy’ with Seoul National University of Education.


The signing ceremony was attended by 24 people, including Seocho Mayor Jeon Seong-su, Seoul National University of Education President Lim Chae-sung, district officials, and school representatives. The event proceeded with greetings, participant introductions, signing and exchanging the agreement, speeches, and commemorative photos.


The main contents of the agreement include ▲supporting AI education programs for the dissemination and expansion of AI technology based on the 4th Industrial Revolution ▲mutual opening of facilities and spaces related to education, events, culture, and sports between Seoul National University of Education and Seocho District ▲matters related to major cooperative projects such as the Campus Town initiative between Seoul National University of Education and Seocho District.


Through this, both institutions agreed to leverage and share their capabilities and networks by supporting educational programs for AI technology dissemination and promoting AI-specialized Campus Town projects.


Mayor Jeon Seong-su said at the ceremony, “We will continue to devote our efforts to nurturing future talents and revitalizing the local economy through various projects in cooperation with Seoul National University of Education.”


As the first step after the agreement, at 2:30 p.m., a ‘Celebrity Lecture and Employment/Startup Mentoring Concert’ was held at the Sahyang Convergence Gymnasium of Seoul National University of Education for 250 residents. Residents learned communication leadership through a humanities lecture by Korean history instructor Choi Tae-sung, while young people gained valuable information on employment and startups through special lectures on startup know-how by current and former corporate mentors, one-on-one job consulting, and AI aptitude and personality tests.

On the morning of the 15th, Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon District, attended the ‘Winter Project Warm Clothing (衣), Food (食), and Shelter (住!)’ delivery ceremony held at Mokdong Jeil Church and took commemorative photos with Pastor Kim Seong-geun of Mokdong Jeil Church.


The 30 million won donated by Mokdong Jeil Church to the Yangcheon Love Welfare Foundation on this day will be used to support vulnerable groups in the area with ▲clothing such as winter coats (35 households) ▲food such as kimchi (530 households) ▲home heating supplies such as electric blankets (150 households). Mayor Lee personally helped mix kimchi, contributing to the neighbor-helping project.


Mayor Lee Gi-jae said, “I sincerely thank the officials of Mokdong Jeil Church who have practiced warm sharing every year through the ‘Clothing, Food, and Shelter’ project, and I hope the donated funds will help neighbors in need in the community have a warm winter.”

Gangnam District (Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) held the inauguration ceremony of the ‘Illegal Flyer Eradication Committee’ at Gangnam Square near Gangnam Station on the 15th and conducted a joint campaign with over 200 participants including residents, entertainment venue personnel, police, and public officials to eradicate sexually explicit illegal flyers and drugs.

On the afternoon of the 15th at 5 p.m., Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, attended the ‘2022 Nowon Calligraphy Association Regular Members Exhibition’ held on the 4th floor of the Nowon Culture and Arts Center.


The Nowon Calligraphy Association provides local residents with opportunities to appreciate traditional calligraphy, fostering pride and a love for culture while continuing activities to preserve the tradition of authentic calligraphy.


The exhibition displays works by about 70 members of the Nowon Calligraphy Association and runs for 15 days until the 24th. Visitors can see works expressing words of wisdom and teachings, poems celebrating nature, and literati paintings such as bamboo, chrysanthemums, and plum blossoms.


The opening event was attended by Mayor Oh Seung-rok, the association’s president, and members, proceeding with greetings, congratulatory speeches, commemorative photos, and a tour.


Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “The Nowon Calligraphy Association contributes to making Nowon District a cultural city through high-quality planned exhibitions and consistent member exhibitions,” adding, “We will continue to listen attentively to calligraphy association members and local artists and provide unwavering support at the district office level.”

On the afternoon of the 15th at 5 p.m., Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon District, attended the plaque ceremony for the Snow Removal Task Force held in the Disaster Safety Countermeasure Situation Room at Yangcheon District Office and urged thorough implementation of snow removal measures to ensure citizen safety during winter.


Mayor Lee Gi-jae said, “Only thorough preparation and the establishment of a swift response system can prevent inconvenience to residents caused by heavy snowfall this winter,” and added, “We have reinforced and additionally deployed various snow removal equipment and storage boxes, so we ask all residents to actively participate in clearing snow in front of their homes for their families and neighbors during heavy snow.”

On the 14th, Gwangjin District (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) held the ‘Gwangjin District Regional Child Center Joint Cultural Festival’ with children.


Now in its 18th year, the ‘Gwangjin District Regional Child Center Joint Cultural Festival’ is hosted by the Gwangjin District Regional Child Center Association (President Kim Myung-hwa). Children showcased what they had learned and practiced throughout the year through performances, marking a meaningful end to 2022.


The festival was attended by about 250 people, including Gwangjin Mayor Kim Kyung-ho and district council members, filling the Gwangjin District Office auditorium. Everyone watched the children’s performances with enthusiastic applause and encouragement.


Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said, “Thank you to the children and youth who worked hard to prepare various stages,” and added, “Gwangjin District will continue to actively support regional child centers and be a safe haven for children through sustained interest.”


The 172 children who performed wore matching beautiful outfits and presented performances such as ▲choral singing ▲broadcast dance ▲Nanta drumming ▲ukulele playing ▲band performances, heating up the stage. At the entrance to the auditorium, a photo zone and a collection of Post-it notes showcasing 2023 hopeful activities and center pride were also prepared.


A youth who performed said, “I was happy to show everything I prepared without holding back and to finish safely,” adding, “I gained a sense of accomplishment and confidence through this festival stage.”


‘Regional Child Centers’ are institutions that provide comprehensive child welfare services such as after-school education, care, protection, education, and safety to foster healthy development of children in the community. Currently, 13 centers operate in Gwangjin District.


The Gwangjin District Regional Child Center Association promised to continue efforts to share various programs among centers to foster cooperation and pride among children using the centers.

On the 14th, Gangseo District, Seoul (Mayor Kim Tae-woo) conducted the ‘2022 Public Officials Security Education’ at the Gangseo District Citizens’ Hall.


The district organized security education for all employees to establish a proper security perspective as public officials.


The education was led by Choi Won-il, former captain of the Cheonan ship and currently a security expert at the 326 Patriots and Veterans Research Institute, and Jeon Jun-young, a surviving soldier of the Cheonan ship and deputy director of the same institute, under the title ‘The Sea of Warships,’ emphasizing the responsibility and proper national perspective of public officials.


Through vivid stories from survivors of the Cheonan ship attack, participants reflected on the spirit of sacrifice of the 46 Cheonan heroes who devoted their lives to protect the country and the late Lieutenant Han Ju-ho.


Before the education, participants enhanced their understanding of national security through experiences with various military equipment supported by the 4th Battalion of the 7688th Army Unit, which maintains a close cooperative relationship with Gangseo District.


Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “With the Ukraine war, additional ballistic missile launches by North Korea, and the increasing possibility of a 7th nuclear test, domestic and international situations are very unstable, requiring a strong security awareness,” adding, “I hope this time will be an opportunity for all employees to rearm themselves with a proper security perspective to respond quickly and actively to national emergencies.”
