SBiomedics Obtains Patent Office's 'Intellectual Property Management Certification'

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] Cell therapy research and development company S-Biomedics announced on the 15th that it recently obtained the 'Intellectual Property Management Certification' from the Korean Intellectual Property Office.

The Intellectual Property Management Certification is a certification system granted to small and medium-sized enterprises that exemplary perform intellectual property management activities based on technological capabilities.

S-Biomedics passed the evaluation on a total of 10 items, including ▲identification and utilization of intellectual property trends ▲number of domestic and international industrial property rights held ▲research and development personnel and budget ▲activation of employee inventions. Going forward, the company will receive various support benefits such as priority examination during patent review, additional reductions in patent annuity fees, and extra points when participating in various support projects of the Korean Intellectual Property Office.

S-Biomedics has secured platform technologies such as three-dimensional functional spheroid implementation technology and embryonic stem cell differentiation standardization technology. Using these technologies, clinical trials are being conducted for spinal cord injury, severe lower limb ischemia, and periorbital wrinkles. The embryonic stem cell-derived 'spinal cord injury cell therapy' and the 'severe lower limb ischemia treatment' using mesenchymal stem cell functional spheroids are currently in Phase 1 and 2a clinical trials.

A representative of S-Biomedics stated, "With the acquisition of the Intellectual Property Management Certification, we will actively secure patents to continuously increase our corporate value."

Meanwhile, S-Biomedics has filed 117 patents in countries including Korea, the United States, Europe, China, and Japan for two core technologies and pipeline development application technologies derived from them, and holds 85 registered patents among them.
