Free Collection of Unused Small and Medium Home Appliances
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Lotte Hi-Mart announced on the 15th that it will conduct the ‘Hi-Sugohama’ campaign until the 31st of next month. Trucks featuring Lotte Hi-Mart’s characters Hipopo and Hapupu will travel around neighborhoods to collect unused small and medium-sized home appliances free of charge.
The Hi-Sugohama campaign is a social contribution activity aimed at continuously promoting appliance recycling and establishing a foundation for a resource circulation structure. It is a joint effort by Lotte Hi-Mart, the Seoul Metropolitan Self-Sufficiency Center, and the Community Chest of Korea. Collected appliances are classified into recyclable parts and hazardous parts at resource circulation centers nationwide and disposed of in an eco-friendly manner. The collection personnel are selected from local residents in need of self-sufficiency. The campaign costs are funded by donations from Lotte Hi-Mart employees.
In consultation with the Seoul Metropolitan Self-Sufficiency Center, Lotte Hi-Mart designated Nowon-gu, Songpa-gu, and Yeongdeungpo-gu as the campaign operation areas. A total of three trucks will visit key points in each district to collect appliances. The key points are places frequently visited by residents, such as community centers, areas near large apartment complexes, and subway stations. Local residents can bring their unused small and medium-sized appliances on the days the trucks arrive at nearby key points. Participants will receive items such as toothbrushes, reusable shopping bags, soap, and scrubbers prepared by the local self-sufficiency centers. Elderly people, disabled individuals, and pregnant women who have difficulty moving can contact each self-sufficiency center to request a pickup service.
A Lotte Hi-Mart official said, “Following the installation of small and medium-sized appliance collection boxes at Lotte Hi-Mart stores nationwide, we are now conducting a visiting appliance collection campaign. We ask for active participation in this event where you can easily dispose of unused small and medium-sized appliances and receive eco-friendly goods.”
