Korea Post, Sales Start from the 18th
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-su] The Ministry of Science and ICT's Korea Post announced on the 14th that it will issue 600,000 commemorative stamps featuring the traditional Korean dance "Cheoyongmu," recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, on the 18th.
"Cheoyongmu" is the oldest court dance created based on a legend from the reign of King Heongang, the 49th monarch of Silla, as recorded in the "Samguk Yusa." It was performed during the annual court ritual called Narye (儺禮) on the lunar New Year's Eve to ward off evil spirits and pray for peace and good fortune.
Since 2017, Korea Post has issued commemorative stamps for various UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage elements, including Namsadang Nori (2017), Jeju Haenyeo culture (2018), falconry (2019), Ssireum (2020), and tightrope walking (2021).
The commemorative stamps can be purchased at nearby post offices or through the online post office.
