Chong Kun Dang Holdings Hosts the 9th Chong Kun Dang Arts Ground Exhibition

[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] Chong Kun Dang Holdings announced on the 14th that it will hold the "9th Chong Kun Dang Art Ground Exhibition" at Gallery 1 of Sejong Center for the Performing Arts from the 17th to the 28th.

Since 2012, Chong Kun Dang Holdings has selected and supported a total of 33 artists through the "Chong Kun Dang Art Ground." Every year, three emerging artists are selected and provided with an annual creative support fund of 10 million KRW for three years, and in the final year of support, they are given the opportunity to hold a solo exhibition.

This exhibition features about 40 paintings created over three years by three artists selected in "Chong Kun Dang Art Ground 2020": Kim Sunyoung, Yoo Seungho, and Choi Suryun. In this exhibition, the three artists will present new interpretations and expressions of Eastern culture and Oriental painting.

Artist Kim Sunyoung uses both Oriental and Western painting materials to show a unique and new trend in Oriental painting. Yoo Seungho, well known for ?landscape paintings created with very small letters?uses characters as a direct subject in his work, expanding the role and scope of characters in visual art. Artist Choi Suryun personally interprets and deciphers major characters appearing in Eastern folklore such as myths, legends, and folktales, reflecting this process directly in her paintings.

This exhibition also introduces a "Virtual Reality (VR) Online Exhibition," allowing viewers to experience the exhibition online via smartphones, computers, and other devices without visiting the gallery in person. The VR online exhibition will be available from the 21st on the Chong Kun Dang Art Ground website and SNS channels, enabling viewers to see the artworks as if they were in the actual exhibition space without restrictions of time and place.

Kim Noam, CEO of Art Space Hue and the exhibition planner, said, "The themes and paintings of the Chong Kun Dang Art Ground artists suggest the future direction of traditional Korean painting," adding, "You will be able to see the more mature artistic worlds of the artists who have been supported by Chong Kun Dang Art Ground for three years."
