Gangjin-gun Selected as Finalist for Smart Village Project

Securing 750 Million Won in National Funds to Establish a Smart Welfare Center

[Gangjin=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] Gangjin County in Jeollanam-do was finally selected on the 7th for the '2023 Smart Village Distribution and Expansion Project' hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT.

The Smart Village Distribution and Expansion Project is a program that supports solving issues in rural fishing and farming areas by utilizing Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). The project was open for applications nationwide, and a total of three locations in Jeollanam-do, including Gangjin County, were selected.

Accordingly, the county secured 750 million KRW, which is 80% of the project cost, from the national budget, allowing it to achieve both the expansion of the poor local finances and the distribution of tangible smart infrastructure.

The county plans to invest a total of 937.5 million KRW by adding 187.5 million KRW of local funds to the secured national budget to build a smart welfare center.

The project will actively promote smart living support services at the welfare center, including facility management using Internet of Things (IoT) technology, self-health checks for the elderly, operation of exercise, leisure, and welfare programs, text recognition reading services, daily life information guidance services, and free Wi-Fi zone operation.

Gangjin County Governor Kang Jin-won stated, "We will integrate smart infrastructure into areas closely related to residents' lives so that the residents can directly feel the improvement in their quality of life," and added, "We will continuously discover smart projects essential to Gangjin County in connection with the basic plan for establishing the Fourth Industrial Revolution Support Center currently being developed."
