[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The head of the intelligence division at Yongsan Police Station, who was under investigation by the Police Agency's Special Investigation Headquarters (SIH) for allegedly persuading employees to delete an internal report expressing concerns about safety accidents during the Halloween period after the tragedy, was found dead on the 11th.
According to the police, A, the head of the intelligence division at Yongsan Station, was found dead at around 12:45 PM at his home in Suyu-dong, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul. It is known that his family discovered him and reported it to the police. The Gangbuk Police Station, which has jurisdiction, is presuming that A took his own life.
Earlier, the SIH had booked A and the intelligence chief of Yongsan Station on charges including abuse of authority and obstruction of evidence and had been conducting an investigation. He is accused of deleting an internal report expressing concerns about safety accidents in the Itaewon area during the Halloween period from the intelligence officer's office PC at Yongsan Station after the tragedy, and persuading and coercing employees in the process.
Although A was booked as a suspect by the SIH, he had not been summoned for questioning. With his death, the SIH plans to close the case against A with a "no prosecution" disposition.
