LH New President Lee Han-jun, Former Gyeonggi Urban Innovation Corporation CEO... Leading Housing Supply under Yoon Administration LH New President Han-Jun Lee

Lee Han-jun (71), former president of Gyeonggi Urban Innovation Corporation, has been appointed as the new president of Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH).

According to LH on the 10th, President Yoon Suk-yeol appointed Lee as the new president of LH on the same day. His inauguration is scheduled for the 11th.

New LH President Lee Han-jun was born in 1951 in Jeongeup, Jeonbuk, graduated from Hanyang University with a degree in Urban Engineering, and earned a Ph.D. in Engineering from Hongik University.

He has worked for over 40 years in the fields of land, urban development, transportation, and housing, serving as Deputy Director of the Korea Transport Institute, Special Policy Advisor to the Governor of Gyeonggi Province, President of Gyeonggi Urban Innovation Corporation (GH), and Visiting Professor at Ajou University.

In 2008, during the economic crisis, he took on the role of GH president when the corporation was on the brink of bankruptcy, successfully developing Gwanggyo New Town and Dasan New Town, attracting Samsung Electronics to Pyeongtaek, normalizing Pangyo Techno Valley, and elevating GH’s credit rating to AAA.

Under the current administration, he contributed to establishing the new government’s housing policy and the roadmap for supplying 2.7 million housing units by serving as an advisory member of the Presidential Transition Committee’s Economic Subcommittee 2, a private member of the Real Estate Task Force, and a member of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s Housing Supply Innovation Committee.

Currently, LH faces challenging management conditions as it undertakes organizational restructuring according to the “Public Institution Innovation Guidelines” and strengthens financial soundness under the “Public Institution Financial Soundness Plan,” while also carrying out major policy projects such as supplying 2.7 million housing units and restoring the housing ladder for youth and the middle class without setbacks.

There are also significant tasks ahead, including the government’s key pledges such as “Youth Cost-Price Housing” and the “Public Rental Housing Project.” Lee’s extensive experience, expertise, and deep understanding of the current government’s housing policies are said to be the reasons behind his appointment.

With Lee Han-jun’s appointment as the first president of a major public institution under the current administration, it is expected that the Yoon Suk-yeol government’s efforts to restore housing hope for youth and the middle class will gain momentum.

Earlier, more than ten candidates applied for the LH president position. The LH Executive Recommendation Committee recommended two candidates for president: former president Lee and Park Mu-ik, former head of the Administrative City Construction Agency.

Subsequently, the Ministry of Economy and Finance’s Public Institution Management Committee conducted a review of the two candidates on the 3rd and selected former president Lee Han-jun as the final candidate.

Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong proposed Lee’s appointment to the president, and presidential approval was granted on the 10th.

Meanwhile, Shim Kyo-eon, a professor in the Department of Real Estate at Konkuk University who had been mentioned as a potential LH president candidate, is reportedly set to take the position of the next president of the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements.

Another major institution under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Korea Expressway Corporation, recently held an executive recommendation committee meeting and began recruiting candidates for its vacant president position. There are rumors that former lawmaker Ham Jin-gyu is the leading candidate for the new president of Korea Expressway Corporation.
