[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] The Gumi City Investment Attraction Team visited Toray headquarters and Otsu City from the 7th to the 10th for a 3-night, 4-day schedule and returned home.
They met with Toray CEO Akihiro Nikkaku and executives to express gratitude for the investments made in Gumi so far and requested additional investments, laying the foundation for overseas investment attraction activities during the 8th term of the elected government.
On the first day, the 7th, they visited Toray headquarters at 5 p.m. and exchanged positive opinions regarding large-scale new investments through a meeting with CEO Akihiro Nikkaku and related personnel.
At this meeting, Kim Jang-ho, head of the investment attraction team and mayor of Gumi City, said, “Toray has had ties with the Gumi National Industrial Complex since 1999 when it was Toray Saehan, playing an important role in revitalizing the local industrial economy. The city is making every effort to attract foreign investment companies in preparation for the new airport era, and especially regarding Toray’s positive response to new investments, we will spare no comprehensive administrative support,” expressing gratitude.
On the second day, the 8th, they visited the Japan-Korea Economic Association and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Japan, exchanging mutual opinions and discussing joint project promotion to attract foreign investment companies to the Gumi Industrial Complex.
On the third day, the 9th, they visited Otsu City, an international sister city, to discuss citizen exchanges and international cooperation plans for 2023. It is expected that in the upcoming year, 2023, Otsu City chefs and housewives’ volleyball officials will participate together in the Ramen Festival and LG Housewives Volleyball Tournament.
Since the establishment of the international sister city relationship in April 1990, the two cities have continued various citizen exchanges such as sports exchanges through volleyball and tea ceremony exchanges. With the stabilization of COVID-19 and visa-free entry between the two countries, they are conducting working-level consultations to promote youth and food exchanges.
Mayor Kim Jang-ho, during his visit to Otsu City, stated, “Exchanges between citizens of the two cities in various fields such as culture, arts, and sports will be a touchstone for accepting different cultures and advancing as global cities,” showing enthusiasm for international sister city exchanges.
In the post-COVID era, where changes in the global trade environment are accelerating, Gumi City aims to provide active administrative support so that foreign investment companies possessing advanced materials and parts production technologies can be recognized as stable investment destinations. Through mutual cooperation with domestic companies, they seek to contribute to the development of the Gumi Industrial Complex and the revitalization of the local economy.
