[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) is operating the 2022 ‘One-Day On-Site Mayor’s Office’ from October 27 to November 16.

The mayor meets directly with residents from all 20 neighborhoods to hear their voices. Since the event is broadcast live on YouTube, any interested resident can participate in real-time chat communication without location restrictions.

Residents’ straightforward complaints are directly answered and explained by resident representatives, the mayor, members of the National Assembly, and district officials, earning feedback such as “It feels very relieving.”

On the afternoon of the 9th, Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, patrolled key sites in Daerim 2-dong and engaged in conversations with residents.

Since October, Mayor Choi has been conducting on-site visits by neighborhood. On this day, he visited Daerim 2-dong to listen to various local issues and toured Daerim Central Market and district government project sites.

Especially at the site damaged by flooding last summer, Mayor Choi Ho-kwon inspected the restoration status and stated, “We will do our best to establish fundamental measures for flood prevention so that residents can enjoy a safer daily life.”

The district has secured an additional budget of 600 million KRW to support free installation of flood prevention facilities and plans to conduct a comprehensive flood disaster countermeasure study, costing 1.5 billion KRW, to review river repairs of Dorimcheon and Daebangcheon streams and expansion of rainwater pumping stations.

On the afternoon of the 9th, Park Kang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, held a discussion with about 20 local residents at the audiovisual room of Mapo-gu Office to prepare preservation measures for Seongsan Neighborhood Park.

On this day, Mayor Park shared plans for improving and maintaining the forest environment of Seongsan Neighborhood Park with residents and listened to their opinions for future preservation measures.

Mayor Park Kang-su said, “We will restore Seongmisan, which was damaged by indiscriminate development, and recreate it as an eco-friendly space where nature and people coexist.”

Gangnam-gu (Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) held a kimchi sharing event titled ‘Full of Sincerity, Filled with Warmth’ on the 9th at the district office in cooperation with the Gangnam-gu Saemaeul Women’s Association.

About 30 participants, including Park Su-gyeong, president of the Saemaeul Women’s Association, and members, took part. They made and packaged kimchi themselves on the 8th in the mountainous area of Goesan-gun, Chungbuk Province. A total of 470 boxes (10 kg per box) of kimchi will be delivered to 440 vulnerable households and 4 child welfare facilities in the area.

The district, together with the Gangnam-gu Saemaeul Women’s Association, shared samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) with 300 elderly people in July and plans to continue warm sharing by preparing side dishes for vulnerable groups at the end of this year.

On the morning of the 9th, Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, attended the donation ceremony for ‘Yangcheon Jangdokdae Traditional Sauce Sharing’ held in the Open Participation Room on the 5th floor of the district office.

The 4,000 traditional sauce items (doenjang, soy sauce) worth about 40 million KRW donated on this day were produced through the ‘Yangcheon Jangdokdae’ project, which Yangcheon-gu has been promoting for four years to promote the excellence of traditional foods and improve awareness of healthy eating. The traditional sauces will be delivered to vulnerable groups in the area through the Yangcheon Love Welfare Foundation to help them stay healthy during the winter.

Mayor Lee Gi-jae said, “The Yangcheon Jangdokdae project is a heartwarming initiative that fosters a healthy food culture in the community and allows participating residents to practice sharing with their neighbors. I hope the nutritious sauces donated today will give strength to our neighbors in need to overcome the winter robustly.”
