[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Hankook Tire & Technology announced on the 9th that it will exclusively supply racing tires for the motorsports event "Sepang 12 Hours Endurance Race" held in Malaysia.
This event is Asia's largest endurance race held to commemorate Malaysia's independence. It will take place over three days from March 3 next year at the Sepang International Circuit. It is set to resume after about seven years since the last season in 2016.
The Sepang International Circuit, where the race is held, hosted Formula 1 (F1) races until 2018. With a 927m straight and a variety of corners evenly distributed, tire handling performance is very important. The race is conducted under harsh conditions with a hot and humid tropical climate where the track temperature reaches 60 degrees Celsius, making tire durability and grip crucial on this course.
Participants in this event will be equipped with Hankook Tire's dry-weather racing slick tire Ventus F200 and wet-weather racing tire Ventus Z207. Hankook Tire has also decided to act as the official one-make tire supplier and technical partner from the 2022-2023 season, when the third-generation race cars are introduced in the electric car racing event ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
