[Asia Economy Reporter Noh Kyung-jo] On the morning of the 9th, the Korea Construction Industry Research Institute announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a mutual cooperation system for promoting research on facility safety and maintenance with the Land Safety Management Institute at the Construction Hall in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
This MOU originated from the recognition that the infrastructure management system needs to be advanced. This is because the aging of facilities is accelerating, and policy interest in public safety is increasing. The policy environment surrounding facility management is also undergoing significant changes.
The Korea Construction Industry Research Institute plans to strengthen collaboration with the Land Safety Management Institute to contribute to national policy and industrial development. The Land Safety Management Institute is a central public enforcement agency responsible for national facility safety management policies.
Lee Chung-jae, President of the Korea Construction Industry Research Institute, said, "As of 2020, the proportion of aging facilities over 30 years since completion accounts for 16.9% of the total, indicating a large share of aging. This is why establishing a proactive facility management system is urgent." He added, "We expect both institutions to actively identify areas for cooperation and conduct joint research to achieve tangible results in facility safety and maintenance."
