[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Yang Bu-nam, Chairman of the Legal Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea, claimed that the prosecution's search and seizure related to Jeong Jin-sang, Director of Political Coordination at the Democratic Party representative office, is "nothing more and nothing less than a political show by the prosecution."
He also urged President Yoon Seok-yeol to accept a national investigation and special prosecution regarding the Itaewon disaster.
On the 9th, Chairman Yang issued a statement saying, "Director Jeong has been sincerely cooperating with the investigation," and added, "Even though it is known that there is no separate office space in the Democratic Party headquarters, forcibly conducting a search and seizure there clearly shows that this is a political show."
He continued, "The prosecution's indictment of Kim Yong, Deputy Director of the Democratic Research Institute, on the 8th, followed by an attempt to conduct a search and seizure on Director Jeong the next day, is ultimately just the prosecution's attempt to shift the public anger caused by the Itaewon disaster onto the Democratic Party through a political show."
Furthermore, he told President Yoon, "You cannot cover the sky with your palm, and the truth will not sink," adding, "President Yoon Seok-yeol should not try to escape the crisis by suppressing the Democratic Party but should reveal the truth of the Itaewon disaster through a national investigation and special prosecution."
