Ex-Husband Who Attacked 40s Actress Wife with Bladed Weapon Sentenced to Prison in First Trial

Attempted Murder Charge... 4 Years Imprisonment

Ex-Husband Who Attacked 40s Actress Wife with Bladed Weapon Sentenced to Prison in First Trial On the 9th, a man in his 30s who was charged with wielding a weapon against his actress wife was sentenced to four years in prison.

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] A man in his 30s who was charged with wielding a weapon against his actress wife was sentenced to prison.

The Criminal Division 11 of the Seoul Western District Court (Chief Judge Moon Byungchan) sentenced Lee, who was indicted on charges of attempted murder, to four years in prison at 2:30 p.m. on the 9th.

According to the prosecution, Lee is accused of stabbing his wife, a woman in her 40s and an actress, with a weapon in the lobby of their home in Itaewon-dong, Yongsan-gu, at around 8:40 a.m. on June 14. The victim, A, sustained injuries to her neck and was taken to a nearby hospital, where it was reported that her life was not in danger.

The court stated, “The defendant committed the crime in front of the victim’s daughter, making the nature of the crime by no means light,” and added, “The victim appears to have suffered considerable physical and psychological pain and shock from this incident, and the defendant has not been forgiven by the victim.”

However, the court explained the sentencing reasoning, saying, “The defendant appears to have been mentally unstable, repeatedly attempting extreme measures in the past,” and “After registering their marriage, when the victim reported to 112 that she was being threatened and the defendant was ordered to leave, he felt wronged and committed the crime while intoxicated.”

On the 12th of last month, the prosecution requested the court to sentence Lee to 10 years in prison, stating, “Lee attempted to kill the defenseless victim who was with their daughter after the dispute and has not shown remorse,” and “He denies the intent to kill and has not made efforts to restore the victim.”

In his final statement on the same day, Lee said, “I am a victim of domestic violence,” and added, “(The victim) often cheated and was not faithful to the family, and even tormented the child.” Nevertheless, he stated, “Although my actions are unforgivable, I swear to heaven that I never intended to kill the victim.”

He continued, “I just want to get out of this case quickly and hope only good things happen in the rest of my life,” and added, “It is hard to say, but I loved you very much. I am sorry because you were too good for me.”
