Inspiring Graduate Students' Research Awareness, Laying the Foundation for Growth as a Research-Oriented University
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Gyeongsang National University held the 26th Young Pioneer Researcher Day event on the 8th at 2 p.m. in the main auditorium on the 2nd floor of the GNU Convention Center at the Gajwa Campus.
The Graduate School of Gyeongsang National University designates one week each spring and fall as Young Pioneer Researcher Week every year to promote research awareness among graduate students, encourage those who have achieved outstanding results, enhance future national competitiveness, and lay the foundation for growth as a research-oriented university by organizing various events.
The Graduate School expects this event to derive and disseminate the outcomes of the 4th phase Graduate School Innovation Support Project and share them to induce graduate school innovation. During Young Pioneer Researcher Week, academic presentations, invited lectures, and convergence seminars are held by department and project group.
Young Pioneer Researcher Day is a commemorative ceremony of Young Pioneer Researcher Week, consisting of congratulatory performances, welcome speeches, congratulatory addresses, student representative greetings, excellent thesis award ceremonies, and award acceptance speeches.
The Excellent Thesis Award is given to graduate students who have published papers as the first author in academic journals indexed by the Korea Research Foundation or higher in the humanities and social sciences fields.
This year, a total of 84 people received the Excellent Thesis Award. The President’s Award, the highest honor, was awarded to Ju Yarin from the Department of Education, Lee Kyung-seok from the Department of Chemistry, Yoo Geun from the Department of Energy Systems Engineering, and Park Jin-ho from the Department of Convergence Medical Science. The Excellence Award and Pioneer Award were given to 13 and 67 recipients, respectively.
Nam Tae-hyun, Dean of the Graduate School, said, “I thank the graduate students and their advisors who showed excellent results despite the ongoing COVID-19 situation.”
President Kwon Soon-gi said, “Young pioneer researchers, based on the academic achievements you have made so far, I hope you will devote yourselves even more to research so that Gyeongsang National University can be reborn as a research-oriented university and grow into excellent researchers leading a knowledge-driven society.” He added, “I hope you spend a more serious and passionate time exploring academia at the Graduate School of Gyeongsang National University, preparing yourselves to mature and take a leap forward.”
