[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, is making every effort to prevent the inflow of AI following the recent detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza at poultry farms in the province.
According to the county on the 9th, the county is currently operating a livestock infectious disease situation room for AI, ASF, and foot-and-mouth disease to prepare for emergency situations.
They operate two key disinfection facilities that disinfect livestock vehicles 24 hours a day, and three control posts to regulate visitors to migratory bird habitats and livestock vehicles, focusing on blocking external sources of livestock disease contamination.
Additionally, to check for virus inflow, six public veterinarians were mobilized to conduct thorough inspections targeting full-time farms starting from the 27th of last month.
The livestock department’s on-site task force and 51 poultry-dedicated officials from towns and townships conduct phone surveillance and quarantine status checks at least once a week.
Moreover, three teams from the Gochang-Buan Livestock Cooperative Joint Prevention Group and three disinfection vehicles are mobilized to disinfect the entrances to poultry farms daily.
The county supplies 2,600 kg of disinfectants and 52,000 kg of quicklime to 138 full-time poultry farms in preparation for highly pathogenic avian influenza during the winter season, actively promoting and guiding farms to conduct preemptive disinfection.
A county official said, “We ask each farm to thoroughly implement farm quarantine measures such as self-disinfection and controlling external visitors with a proactive attitude that responds to environmental changes rather than being bound by the past,” adding, “If livestock farmers’ awareness of autonomous quarantine increases, economic damage to livestock farms can be minimized.”
