[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Ssangyong Motor announced on the 8th that, along with gratitude for the support and encouragement from the local community for the company’s business normalization, it has donated funds to the 2022 Pyeongtaek Briquette Sharing Bank and participated in sharing activities to support the underprivileged and realize social values.
At the launch ceremony held on the 7th at the Paengseong-eup Administrative Welfare Center in Pyeongtaek City, about 70 people attended, including Ssangyong Motor executives and employees such as Union Chairman Seon Mok-rae, National Assembly member Hong Gi-won, Pyeongtaek Mayor Jeong Jang-seon, and local organization leaders.
Not only Ssangyong Motor but also the labor union and the in-house volunteer club ‘Yeontang-gil’ participated together in this fund sponsorship, delivering a briquette fund of 15 million KRW to the Briquette Sharing Bank. After the launch ceremony, they visited low-income families in the area and personally delivered briquettes, sharing a meaningful time of warmth.
The Pyeongtaek Briquette Sharing Bank is jointly hosted by the Ssangyong Motor in-house volunteer club Yeontang-gil, the Pyeongtaek City Social Welfare Council, and the Pyeongtaek Citizen Newspaper. Since 2007, through citizen fundraising and support from briquette angels, it has annually supported marginalized neighbors with briquettes and carried out free repair and replacement activities for briquette boilers.
Meanwhile, Ssangyong Motor has been striving to nurture local talent by providing scholarships to middle, high school, and university students in the Pyeongtaek area since 2012 through the Hanmaeum Scholarship Foundation established jointly by labor and management, in addition to volunteer activities. It conducts various social contribution activities for the economic development of the local community, talent cultivation, and environmental improvement, such as signing industry-academia cooperation agreements with local educational institutions, donating teaching materials, and monthly river maintenance campaigns under the One Company One River movement.
Ssangyong Motor stated, “We thank the local community and Pyeongtaek citizens who have sent much support and encouragement for the company’s business normalization. Although there have been shortcomings in fulfilling our social role as a corporate citizen due to difficulties such as corporate rehabilitation procedures, we will strive to contribute to the local community and become a company that grows together with the community in the future.”
